Bail reduces county costs and relieves jail overcrowding. Additionally, bail is guaranteed by the 8th and 14th Amendments in the U. S. Constitution. Private surety increases the likelihood that a defendant will appear in court as opposed to other pretrial release programs. By integrating family and friends, bail agents invest and instill financial incentives. Most bonds, however, do not necessarily need to be indemnified which means that trust relationship is developed between the bail agent and the defendant.
